Light Lab is a community arts organisation running projects across Scotland, set up by Edinburgh artist Kenny Bean. It provides a range of arts events to community groups using video projection and photography to increase people's skills, encourage their creative potential and boost confidence and self-esteem. Light Lab works with over 1,000 young people each year, through a series of workshop-based projects and arts events. PAPER CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise limited by guarantee, is based in the beating heart of Bristol's city centre. "At PAPER we use 'Professional Advice, Practical Education and Recognition' as tools to engaging people in self-development through the arts. This is why we believe that, by sharing our experiences and knowledge through skills based training, we can create opportunities for both individual and community development. In doing this we are helping people to release their potential and creating opportunities for individuals to gain an income through the arts. We are very different from a 'traditional' arts organisation as we value the fact that every person is an individual and that, when it comes to self-development, one size does not fit all. In June 2013 the number of long-term unemployed residents in Bristol was the highest it has been since 1997. Half of Bristol's JSA claimants have been unemployed for over six months and that number has been growing over the last two years. By providing skills and training for young people to enter employment or to become self employed, our project will improve the long-term job prospects of our target demographic. We currently work with the Job Centre and the Creative Employment Programme to deliver paid internships; we have committed to train over twenty-five interns from 2013-2016. In particular we work with 18-24 year olds that have been unemployed for a long period of time, to give them the confidence and necessary work experience to secure future employment in the creative sector. Our resource of city-wide training, talks, workshops and courses is open to the public. It is a user friendly online resource that helps the local community to source programs for self development. Our advice centre is open to the public and those that are not used to using computers can be shown how to use the resource and also book in for personal advice sessions if they feel they need more support and information. We rely heavily on volunteers and core funding to provide our services to the general public. We are looking for business sponsors to help us provide better equipment for our training courses and intern programs. Our city centre premises is very accessible but we also have an 'Out Reach' program to help encourage communities on the outskirts of the city or those that cannot easily access our building, to get involved in our skills programme. The Enterprise Education Trust is a national business education charity, originally founded in 1977 to help bridge the gap between education and work. GREENPARK IMAGES
Greenpark Images has a unique film archive of UK social history going back to the 1950s. Since there is a growing national concern about the need for teenagers to appreciate the importance of Respect and Responsibility and their role in society as citizens, the company has recently started using its film archive to produce a series of educational courseware modules on DVD, for classroom use in the teaching of Key Stage 3 Citizenship in UK schools. The first module, on the subject of "Respect", which provides illustrations from earlier decades for use in classroom discussion, has been produced in collaboration with staff and students at a secondary school, with the support of a small Strategic Commissioning Educational Grant from MLA South West. It is proving very popular with teachers and students who have used it and Greenpark Images is now embarking on producing the next DVD module, about Responsibility, in a similar format, also with a small grant from MLA South West. The company is keen to begin to market these modules nationally to all secondary schools for their Citizenship classes, but this will require about £15,000 in additional funding for each module for marketing, distribution and the clearance of rights. They are therefore keen to find a sponsor who would be interested in being associated with this project and, ideally, provide complementary opportunities to promote awareness of the courseware and of the important topics covered. HOWBURY FRIENDS
Howbury Friends is a community group that runs projects in Slade Green, Erith. Its members live and work in the local community. Howbury Friends is run by ten local people, all of whom are volunteers. The group sees over five hundred people a week through its projects and over two thousand during the school holidays. It runs projects for children after school, engaging them in positive activities to reduce anti-social behaviour and neglect, as well as building confidence and teaching them skills. "We run projects for teenagers in the evening, giving them a safe haven and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. We also organise projects for adults during the day, teaching new skills and getting them back into work. We run activities for the elderly, reducing isolation and fear. During the school holidays and every Saturday, we organise family activities, breaking down barriers in the community and between ages. We also raise money to take people on trips: this year we took 250 disadvantaged people to the beach for a day and 115 disadvantaged children to the pantomime. Everyone works on a voluntary basis and currently all funds come from government grants, trusts and fundraising events. The club is looking for sponsors who are willing to help in a variety of different ways, either through one-off or regular donations - in order for the projects to keep running - or by donations to allow us to buy equipment for the projects. In exchange, we will add your logo to all of our advertising leaflets and any event posters or public paperwork, along with a notice attached to the equipment donated stating that the item was generously donated by your company. The Mammal Society is the voice for British mammals and the only organisation solely dedicated to the study and conservation of all British mammals. Many of our British mammals are disappearing from the countryside: red squirrels, dormice, water voles – the list is too long. We can only protect our threatened mammals if we know where they live and how to identify them and the signs (droppings, footprints) they leave behind. The Mammal Society runs nationwide surveys to monitor the populations of British mammals and identify their habitat requirements. They are also the leading provider of top quality training in all aspects of mammal work from identification skills to survey techniques. This all costs money and so the society needs support urgently to help them expand and build on this work. The programme is run from dedicated facilities at CEME (Centre for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence) that provide an integrated classroom and workshop environment that is tailored to theoretical and practical learning by schoolchildren. The facilities also host a full IT suite of connected computers, allowing students to learn from proprietary and bespoke content. In addition, a variety of supplies of building and engineering materials such as Knex blocks, electronic circuitry, robotics and software form part of the programme resources and enable construction of structures and ideas that require the principles of design and engineering to be applied. "Since 2006, the programme has delivered to well over 1,000 schoolchildren from the London East Plus areas and we plan to expand this geographic coverage in the future. GTS is designed to focus specifically on STEM subjects and to bring them alive in an interesting and fun way that will inspire schoolchildren to become more interested in these crucial subject areas. Unfortunately, many secondary level schools in the East Plus area suffer from a lack of funding to be able to create and deliver a similar STEM programme of their own. Consequently, they are often unable to gain access to the specialist equipment and teaching and denied the opportunity to educate and inspire their students in this way. The GTS programme steps in to fill that gap to provide that necessary and valuable opportunity for the local schools. "Our route is broken down into four stages; a run from London to Dover (87 miles), a swim across the English Channel (21 miles), a cycle from Calais to Tromso, in northern Norway (over 2,000 miles) and finally a row to Longyearbyen, Svalbard (over 700 miles). We begin on the 10th June, 2017, and aim to reach our destination by the end of August. Our target is to raise over £100,000 for the Scout Association. This global charity gets young people outdoors and teaches them invaluable life lessons. We hope with our challenge by representing the Scouts we will also inspire young people to dream big. TIKI THE PENGUIN - FOR KIDS AND FOR THE PLANET
Tiki.oneworld.org is an environmental education website with a global reach, aimed at children, schools and other educational establishments. The site, established just over fifteen years ago, is free to use and had nearly 300,000 separate users in the last year alone. This attractive website with its numerous and colourful cartoons appears at the top of Google searches for "kids' guides to climate change" and other searches related to pollution, pollution, plastics, pollution, energy, biodiversity and several more. Statistics show the site is widely used internationally, with the highest percentage of users being from the USA (37%), the UK (18%) and India (7%).     More about Tiki and his website | Tiki, a friendly penguin, cares deeply about the future of the planet. He explains the ins and outs of pressing environmental issues, as seen through the eyes of a non-human via a series of jargon-free guides, in an engaging and humorous way, appealing to both children and adults. The work of Mauduit Foundation (M.Fondation) is directed towards enabling the growth of strategic innovations which will contribute to sustainable development for the good of all nations. "We are currently supporting an ecological procedure to obtain clean water from salt water. Existing desalination procedures involve throwing back into the sea 100% of all salt extracted, as well as unwanted heavy metal waste, creating serious marine pollution and disturbing local industries based on fishing. Such techniques enable the retrieval of no more than 50% of the water extracted. The technology supported by M.foundation involves no throwback and enables practically 100% retrieval of both water and salt. This project also enables the use of the salt to grow a seaweed, Dunaliella Salina, which is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, food supplements, biofuels, etc.. Reserves of minerals on our planet, particularly river sand, are limited, but our need for concrete, metals and so on never ceases to grow. These materials are produced by carbonisation, causing serious climatic disruption. Our foundation supports a relevant alternative which uses water chemistry. This technique enables an ecological production of a material that is equivalent to stone and was inspired by the way in which vertebrates create teeth and bones. This ecological mimicry enables us to obtain a whole range of materials that are infinitely recyclable, at an ambient temperature. As an example, one variation of this process is going to produce a material for use in the manufacture of bathroom equipment. Another variation enables the manufacture of concrete using a base of sea water and desert sand. This alternative, which will have a positive effect on some thirty different skills and will generate considerable employment, is supported by our foundation. The Powis Wood Fair is a fun-filled family weekend and attracts in excess of 5,000 visitors over the two days. Working with secondary schools across the country, Recycling Options aims to install a range of automatic recycling machines that receive, shred or crush and store used beverage containers. These machines are at the leading edge of technology and have an excellent record in the USA and Europe. Machines are often seen as expensive for current tight school budgets; however, the integral TV provides a platform for sponsors to run video tracks that educate and inform students (11-18 years old), whilst promoting appropriate services and products. The organisation's systems also enable schools and colleges to qualify for Eco-school and Green Flag status, amongst others. Vouchers or smartcard points are given for every deposit and these provide an opportunity for incentive programmes geared for all Key stages, as well as an involvement in PSHE projects. Points (with a value) may alternatively be allocated to selected charities. The recycling initiative will create a better place to work and play, reduce litter, increase recycling and help local and global environments. Dealing with waste at the point of arising will reduce carbon emissions, and is practical and sustainable. The compulsory music and marking system used for FlaTwOrkMUSIC competitions was originally created for use in conjunction with current British Dressage Freestyle2Music testing. The objective was to help redress the current system's imbalance of having 70% of marks being awarded for technical merit while allowing only a subjective and arbitrary 'general impression' mark for the music element. Consideration was also given to the fact that current competitors who have music professionally fitted to an existing floor plan are in fact gaining advantage from a skill that is not theirs. The newly written Compulsory Music system underwent extensive trials in New Zealand from November 2009 to March 2010. The trials themselves were very successful, and the choices of attractive music and simple application concept gave rise to many 'straight dressage' competitors asking to run the compulsory section as a stand-alone competition, so that they could experience the joy they witnessed in others riding to music. The standalone competitions went ahead at Level 2/3 (Novice/Elementary) in three New Zealand venues with all entrants completing questionnaires about their experience. The overriding conclusions as to why so many dressage riders had not previously ridden Freestyle2Music were related to a lack of ability and time needed to produce suitable music for themselves: costs of having it done professionally were also a major disincentive. While everyone who took part perceived that they themselves were more relaxed and that their horses moved better while riding to music, they believed that sourcing suitable music and the editing required to make an acceptable soundtrack for Freestyle was a skill unrelated to equestrianism and many found the prospect of doing it themselves bemusing. FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL
The French Film Festival UK every year provides a glittering, stimulating and at times challenging array of films at leading cinemas throughout the UK. The festival began in 1992 in two Scottish cities and gradually has grown to encompass locations from Shetland to Plymouth by way of Belfast. In 2019, the festival covered more than thirty-five cities, including large and small venues throughout the UK. There are a plethora of photo-sharing sites on the web these days and many of them feature excellent photos of all sorts of places. Unfortunately, a lot of these attractive images come with descriptions like 'Italy' or 'Russia', and nothing more - or even just 'untitled'. Clearly, there is a need for a photo site which does more to inform than these sites generally do, and doesn't cost anything. That's what World Image Tour does - it's an informative and educational site, as well as being one that provides imagery of various places around the world, which can also be viewed without the information if desired. The main galleries are presented in Flash format at the moment. This is for the convenience of the zoom and pan functions, but also as a protective measure for those images which are not available for re-use (although these are few). The main galleries feature photos from the past twenty years. Projected additional features include Archives galleries (photos more than twenty years old and ones which have been replaced with more recent images of the same scene) and Historical galleries (photos over fifty years old). Both these sections would be presented in fully downloadable JPEG formats, using only public domain images. Other plans include expanding the Fast Facts Files sections to include several language choices, and several sub-sections (languages, religions, etc.). TRUST HEALTH SERVICES
Trust Health Services (THS) is a healthcare service company based in China and the UK. THS can offer two opportunities for companies to improve awareness of their services or brands and also complete any corporate social responsibilities. First, THS has completed filming of a project called Yang Sheng, meaning Long Life, involving demonstrational, instructional videos in the arts of Tai Chi, Traditional Dance and Specialised Aerobics. Secondly, Yang Sheng will be launched through a Health Culture Exchange Program (HCEP) that will involve approximately twenty-five professionals coming from north China to introduce these arts to all age groups (although specifically to the middle to late age groups) or people with minor problems such as being overweight or having hypertension. The performances will be held in a university for the young and through fitness centres and open-air locations in city centres or parks, to attract people from all walks of life. The promotional video is available for all sponsorship applicants and will be distributed freely through websites and on DVD during events. The HCEP will be filmed by a Chinese TV crew that will air a reality program based on the experiences of the cast of performers visiting the UK. This program has the ability to reach in excess of one million people in the catchment area of the television station. The program can be translated and, with a voiceover applied, can be transmitted on UK TV. There are considerable opportunities for advertising in both programs through branded, gifts, ie chopsticks, paper lanterns, children painting blank Beijing Opera masks during promotion by the Chinese students at Salford and Manchester Universities, on the streets of Manchester and Chester where open air displays are planned. The media opportunities will be available in both China and UK through TV, radio, websites and local newsreels and papers. The Yang Sheng video program will include advertising space and be targeting all age groups and will be split into two sections: primarily made up of the beautiful, slow moving, low impact movements of Tai Chi and secondly the traditional Chinese dance. The Health Culture Exchange venues will include city centres, charity events, university performance, fitness centres and open air restaurants and during all events the Yang Sheng video will be on sale. The FITS Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation created specifically to provide training and accreditation for technicians in educational establishments. FITS (Framework for ICT Technical Support) is a set of guidance processes designed to streamline ICT service management and delivery in schools. Evidence has shown that implementing FITS processes cuts the costs of ICT support provision, delivers a higher return on ICT investment and a positive impact on teaching and learning outcomes. FITS, originally developed by Becta, the government agency leading the national drive to ensure the effective and innovative use of technology throughout learning, is now managed and supported through The FITS Foundation. The FITS Foundation's goal is to provide a clear career path for ICT technicians in schools through their accreditations, both of which are internationally recognised qualifications and listed on the QCA register. The accreditations provide technicians with NVQ levels 4 and 5 qualifications. The Leading Learning Trust is an education charity which exists to further education for the public benefit. "We are currently two primary schools serving a culturally rich and diverse area in Newham, East London. Our schools are the hub of our communities and are highly valued by all stakeholders. Both schools are high performing, welcoming, safe and highly vibrant learning environments, in spite of the challenges our families often face in this part of London. The Trust's vision is 'transforming lives': we truly believe that education is at the forefront of social change and that all of our children deserve equality access to the cutting edge opportunities that children who live in more affluent areas often experience. We continually strive for innovation and excellence and this was recognised in the most recent Ofsted inspections (April 2019) where both schools were judged as 'Outstanding'. Like many other schools across the country, Covid has been an enormous learning curve and, while it had many negative consequences on our children and their families, it has also given us the opportunity to review and develop our current practice. A key part of the work we did during this period was the rapid provisioning of a number of applications within our cloud-based system, Google's G Suite for Education, to enable us to continue to educate our children, whether they were at home or in school (as some children were during lockdown). Sponsorship is sought for the Junior Memory Championship, which works with schools to promote memory skills for children. The Junior Memory Championship is the only nationwide memory championship for primary schools in the UK. Now in its seventh year, it is an important educational initiative bringing valuable memory skills to the forefront of learning. In its first six years it has reached over 61,000 children. Over the past two years, the Junior Memory Championship has enjoyed some substantial media coverage in TESPro, Guardian Teachers Network, The Times and on BBC Radio 4's Midweek programme. The Founder of the Junior Memory Championship is Jonathan Hancock, former World Memory Champion, holder of two Guinness World Records and author of nine books on memory and learning. Importantly he is deputy headmaster of a primary school in Brighton and ensures that every element of this project is keyed into the real learning needs of children, and the practicalities of teaching in a crowded curriculum. As a teacher he sees for himself how memory and learning techniques are central to educational success. BATTLE MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL
"The event of the weekend", The Guardian. The Battle Festival of arts and music, held in October, seeks to fund and present major classical concerts and a new music commission to be performed by children from twelve schools, at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, a workshop/performance to introduce young children to an orchestra. "We want to take music to people who can't attend concerts through infirmity, at local residential homes and hospices. We want to offer Master Classes on song writing and how to enter the music industry. We present jazz and contemporary music. We facilitate and encourage a visual arts strand, showcasing local and international artists. Most of all we want to encourage and develop talent and enhance people's wellbeing through awareness of, and participation in, music and the arts. The Festival Committee established Battle Festival in 2013. It received considerable critical acclaim and appealed to a wide age group. The committee is managed by a team of creative professionals and educators. Artistic Director Dan Cornford, principle Viola Player of the London Philharmonic, draws on the skills and experience of internationally-renowned performers to deliver our classical repertoire to a rural community. Musical education and outreach projects are managed by John Boyd, former Head of the Hastings Areas Music Service. The inaugural project delivered in 2014 drew together 300 children from six varied schools and, working with East Sussex Hub providers, delivered a programme of music to children in addition to the curriculum. Young musicians (popular music) were provided mentoring opportunities from an Ivor Novello Award winner, songwriting workshops, alongside a Q & A session with industry figures, including BBC Introducing, thus delivering invaluable advice, support and inspiration for musicians at an early stage, an experience not available at school or the rural community. Opera in a Day was presented by Glyndebourne Education Department and we have joint plans for a major collaboration in 2016. A diverse range of Battle Fringe activities was programmed to supplement and enhance the core programme. This will be developed for 2015 to include a greater visual arts element. We will produce a world class music and arts festival that enthuses the local community, boosts the local economy and encourages visitors to the region. We want to make Battle an essential cultural destination for the arts, inspiring new audiences and bringing world-class performers and artists to Battle. We will expand on our 2014 visual arts element, producing a programme for local, regional and international artists, including gallery exhibitions, free talks, workshops, demonstrations and masterclass mentoring sessions. We are partners with Battle Town Council and the Pure Arts Group and are constructing an Arts and Heritage Trail and a competition for a sculpture to be placed on a roundabout. This will foster 'Health and Wellbeing' with participants and audience. The Lincolnshire International Chamber Music Festival (LICMF) has been in existence since 2004 with the aim of bringing chamber music of the highest quality to remote areas of our county, and to audiences who would otherwise not have the opportunity for such a wonderful experience. "Using a variety of venues, including churches, country houses and small village halls, we have been able to bring the joy of live music to such communities, performed by first-class musicians with truly international reputations, who thrill their audiences and enrich their enjoyment. We achieve this through the expertise of our Lincolnshire-born artistic director, Ashley Wass, who is fully committed to the festival - he creates imaginative and varied programmes on a different theme each year, and has also included specially-commissioned works in the repertoire which have been given their premieres in Lincolnshire! In 2014 we began a new venture, taking professional musicians into primary schools to give 'workshops' to as many pupils as possible, including many small village schools, and providing a wonderful opportunity for the children; one of our headteachers described our visit as 'a privilege'. Rock, pop and club music workshops and events at venues across Suffolk help young people across the county enjoy, and possibly make a career out of, music. The Amplifier project was founded back in October 2004, promising to help budding musicians make the most of their skills – either just for fun or as a way of earning their living. Aimed at 11 to 25 year olds, the programme covers all aspects of the music industry including: music workshops – to develop their singing and playing skills; song-writing and composing sessions – multi-media sessions – using computers to make music; music business seminars – looking at how to get gigs, improving publicity skills and releasing CDs; studio craft – making the most of studio time and making your band sound better; the good gig guide – how to put on music events successfully and safely; and rock journalism – making a career out of writing about music. Participants are able to do individual sessions or follow a more structured course. For some participants this may lead to a recognised qualifications. Despite the rural nature of the county, Amplifier aims to make sure no one misses out. Workshops take place at seven main venues – one in each district across the county these are supplemented by three smaller venues in each area. The Voices Foundation, founded in 1993 by Susan Digby, believes that music is vital for the overall development of children. Its innovatory, singing-based Foundation programme currently runs in over forty schools nationwide, from Durham all the way down to North Devon, delivered by highly trained Advisory Teachers, who come into the schools, work with all the children and teachers, giving all staff the confidence to teach music as they teach other curriculum subjects. The benefits are real and ongoing: all children can sing and acquire the language of music as they can their native tongue  ·  Arts in education can have a humanising effect and provide an antidote to problems in society  ·  Well taught music develops intellect and character  ·  Children acquire self-discipline, social and communication skills, awareness and tolerance  ·  Teachers’ morale, self-esteem, skill base and confidence greatly improve  ·  Children from deprived inner-city and rural areas find the programme particularly valuable  ·  Head Teachers report improved social behaviour and less playground aggression  ·  Major positive impact on literacy and numeracy skills, as reported by OFSTED  ·  Music is part of the statutory requirement within the National Curriculum  ·  Many primary schools have no specialist teachers  ·  There are no adequate resources for training  ·  No opportunities are available to redress the situation. Opera Anywhere has a reputation for innovative and unusual productions. One of its main aims is to encourage and develop new audiences for opera. It looks to include and involve young and up-and-coming singers, as well as professionals: recent productions have cast members as young as seven and eight years of age! Touring several productions each year, Opera Anywhere would like to extend its work with young people through promoting attendance at singers' masterclasses, workshops and opera projects in schools and colleges. Opera Anywhere is currently looking for funding to take a radical new English translation of Don Giovanni into senior schools and colleges and its Gilbert & Sullivan production, Curiouser & Curiouser (based on the story of Alice In Wonderland), into primary education. The Gateway to Skills (GTS) programme provides a creative and inspiring 'Taster Day' for local secondary level schoolchildren in years 7 - 10 from the London boroughs of Newham, Havering and Barking & Dagenham (East Plus). Its objectives are to     Create greater awareness of STEM subjects in secondary school level students     Stimulate students' interest in Engineering and STEM in a fun and interesting environment outside of school     Enhance existing, and develop new, personal skills in Technology and Construction     Provide awareness of Engineering career options and the scope of sector-wide application     Help to increase the available number of future engineers in the local area. The programme is run from dedicated facilities at CEME (Centre for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence) that provide an integrated classroom and workshop environment that is tailored to theoretical and practical learning by schoolchildren. The facilities also host a full IT suite of connected computers, allowing students to learn from proprietary and bespoke content. In addition, a variety of supplies of building and engineering materials such as Knex blocks, electronic circuitry, robotics and software form part of the programme resources and enable construction of structures and ideas that require the principles of design and engineering to be applied. "Since 2006, the programme has delivered to well over 1,000 schoolchildren from the London East Plus areas and we plan to expand this geographic coverage in the future. GTS is designed to focus specifically on STEM subjects and to bring them alive in an interesting and fun way that will inspire schoolchildren to become more interested in these crucial subject areas. Unfortunately, many secondary level schools in the East Plus area suffer from a lack of funding to be able to create and deliver a similar STEM programme of their own. Consequently, they are often unable to gain access to the specialist equipment and teaching and denied the opportunity to educate and inspire their students in this way. The GTS programme steps in to fill that gap to provide that necessary and valuable opportunity for the local schools. This means that they can still receive interesting and high-quality, curriculum-based activity that supports their own teaching programmes without the need to find extra funding, as the programme is delivered free-of-charge to the participating schools who are located within the London Boroughs of Havering, Newham and Barking and Dagenham. The commercial sponsorship package is priced at £85,000. This provides for 1,000 student places that can be delivered over one or two academic years. The participating students would be currently from the London boroughs of Newham, Havering and Barking & Dagenham (East Plus). Milton Keynes - a basketball destination waiting to happen. 300,000 people, an 800 seat basketball arena due in 2024, the 4,000 seat Marshall Arena already in place, the nearest BBL team sixty miles away - and probably the largest and fastest growing junior community basketball programme outside of the BBL.

MK Basketball has grown from just forty kids in a small gym back in 2018 to a programme now offering community and JNL basketball to over 350 boys and girls, with plans to expand from two to four basketball centres, 500 players and a CVL within MK itself.

Working with two local secondary schools, September 2021 will see the start of the MK Basketball Academy, as well as the first Senior Men's National League team to play in MK since the MK Lions left almost a decade ago.

Props Theatre Arts School in North Wales is looking for a long term sponsor to help with its running costs. Now in its seventh year, the school has had no funding from any other organisation but has raised several thousands of pounds for various charities over the years through special productions. It has several students who are unable to meet the fees (£25 - £30 a month) and discreetly supports them with free places, helping them achieve their full potential either locally or elsewhere. Funds are raised through student fees, ticket sales, events and merchandising and from advertising in its annual brochure/prospectus. The school aims to produce at least four shows a year, teaching through performance and covering everything from Shakespeare to musical theatre and comedy as well as stage management, lighting, sound etc.. It also covers the L.A.M.D.A. syllabus, with excellent results. The school works out of, and manages, a War Memorial Building which is a Charitable Trust in dire straits: it is struggling to pay the rent which just covers the utility bills and insurance and thus keeps the building open as a community building and home to the local youth club. The school is about to diversify into film work but funds are running out. Spike Theatre formalised in 1997 and is a small-scale touring theatre company incorporating a dedicated education and community outreach wing. Spike Theatre receives regular funding from Arts Council North West and has become one of Britain’s leading small scale touring companies, producing shows that are accessible, engaging and visually exciting. Drawing upon various disciplines such as mime, acrobatics, ensemble work, clowning and strong characterisation, Spike produces a style of ‘Total’ theatre with the performer at the centre of the work. Theatre East organises acting, singing, dancing and music activities for kids in a disadvanteged area of Newcastle upon Tyne. Sponsorship funding is sought to assist with the refurbishment of the organisation's premises, which needs to be re-wired, have the theatre and rehearsal rooms brought back into good condition, have its sound and lighting equipment refurbished and replaced and have new stage curtains installed. A music room and musical equipment is also urgently needed. The organisation is voluntary but not yet a registered charity and has been in existence for about 15 months. Tutors from Newcastle's 'Live Theatre' are used, with the centre's programme being managed by their Youth Theatre Director, Paul James. Funding was secured from SRB last year with further funding from the Lottery this year.
