CCSMBA HOPE TO BOWL SPONSORS OVER WITH THEIR SHORT MAT OPPORTUNITIES
Short Mat Bowls is a popular sport, boasting national and international championships and a large and growing following across the country.

It is an all-year sport, unaffected by weather conditions, and it does not require a permanent location as the rink mats can be rolled up and stowed away. This makes it particularly appropriate for small communities as it can be played in village halls, schools, sports and social clubs, hotels etc.

The game is played in broadly the same way as outdoor bowls and, indeed, many players participate in both games. The main differences are the size of the playing area, the 'block' (which occupies the mid-position of the rink mat and prevents players from playing with force directly towards an opponent's bowl in order to knock it out of a scoring position), and the 'ditch', which is actually a defined area of the mat surface.

The English Inter County Championships are based on a geographic basis, owing to the size of England. They are organised on a round robin basis with groups of four or five. All county teams are mixed and made up of twenty players playing in two singles, two pairs, two triples and two fours, who all play twice. All matches are staged using four mats.

The Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association (CCSMBA) are currently looking for sponsors for all of their activities.
