HASTINGS INTERNATIONAL CHESS CONGRESS
The Hastings International Chess Congress boasts a position as the world's most enduring chess event. The most famous Hastings chess event took place in 1895 and world champions have been winners at Hastings. It has existed as an annual event for eighty years but has modernised and now uses the latest IT equipment to broadcast games live to a worldwide audience. The Congress now takes place at the Horntye Park Sports Complex which is reckoned to be one of the finest chess venues in the country. Around five hundred national and international players of all ages and socio-economic groups attend as well as a daily audience. Daily reports appear in the national broadsheets and television coverage is given periodically. International press coverage is extensive. THE PAINTBALL ASSOCIATION
Paintball is one of the largest growing mass participation sports in the UK. The aims and philosophy of the Paintball Association are very much to improve the standards and professionalism of the sport of competitive paintball by introducing new procedures by which the league is run and establishing a body of independent referees for the first time in paintball history. The Paintball Association National League invites paintball teams to play under their town name and compete against other towns in divisions to accumulate points and win prize money. The association has already secured support from within the paintball industry and are in the process of attracting further support from external companies who are looking to either enter the market place or raise awareness of their brand within the sector. The Paintball Association League is the only national league in the UK and is already attracting a great deal of media attention. In August 2003, the Paintball Association Cup secured backing from companies such as William Hill and the News of the World, alongside other regional and national press and various radio stations and was even featured on the BBC’s They Think It’s All Over.
