NATIONAL ICE CENTRE

The National Ice Centre boasts a position as the UK's premier ice sports venue, with two Olympic-sized ice rinks under its roof. It is the busiest ice rink in the UK, with more public skaters and championship skaters than any other rink in the country. Situated in the centre of Nottingham, a legacy to the city's legends Torvill and Dean, the NIC is the heart of British ice sports, home to the GB Short Track Speed Skating Squad who will shortly be competing in the Winter Olympics, the Nottingham Panthers professional ice hockey team, and the training ground of an élite skating academy plus nearly 300 junior hockey players. Whether you're interested in sponsoring local or national skating events, international competitions, world championships or even family entertainment skating shows, the NIC has an opportunity to match your needs. Maybe you'd like to get involved in sponsoring the centre's ice sports programmes, from junior ice hockey to synchronised skating, ice dance to speed skating - or sponsor one of its highly-acclaimed Playing For Success flagship programmes involving local schools. You may wish to become a partner for one of the hugely popular themed public skating sessions, which attract thousands of skaters every week, or perhaps attract their attention with your name in the ice or in lights around one of the two rinks. You might even want to sponsor one of the NIC's skaters, and help them become the next Torvill or Dean, and achieve the success that they deserve in a sport that sees dedicated youngsters skating from 5.00 am in the morning - something that requires physical and financial commitment in equal measures. Alternatively you may have a more original way to target the half a million ice sports fans that visit the venue during the year. Contact: Geoff Huckstep, Chief Executive Officer. THE VAUGHAN SPORTS FOUNDATION
The Vaughan Sports Foundation, based in west London, was established in November 2007 with the aim of addressing the decline in extra-curricular sporting activities in schools and to promote community sport in healthy recreation within the Greater London area. The Foundation's vision is to enable young people from a variety of backgrounds to use sports as a means of development and to build confidence, to improve health and to further their educational opportunities. The Foundation was set up in partnership with the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, an inner London comprehensive. The Foundation is based in north Kensington, recognised as an area of social deprivation. In the borough itself, 46% of children do not have English as their first language. The trustees acknowledge that participation in sport can be one of the major factors in breaking down barriers to inclusion for children. Participation in sport is also known to have a positive impact on academic performance, as recognised by Ofsted. There is also a need to address the growing prevalence of obesity in young children. If present trends continue, by 2020 one in three adults, one in five boys and one in three girls will be clinically obese. Such sporting opportunities can provide solutions to the problem of health, education and social development and enable the local youth to participate in society as mature and responsible adults. The Foundation sets out to extend provision of extra-curricular courses and activities for young people. Participants will be coached in a range of sports, fitness training and leadership skills. They have established a varied programme of sporting activities for young people during the school holidays, run in partnership with governing bodies such as the RFU and FA and other sporting institutions. The Foundation also intends to provide opportunities to participants to acquire coaching qualifications themselves so that they gain the confidence and skills needed to organise and supervise sports activities and competition in the local communities. It is hoping to add rowing and fencing to the list of options. Involvement in sports, particularly within a structured environment, is a fun and constructive way for young people to use their spare time, find new friends and obtain new skills. By taking part, young people will acquire a sense of achievement and self esteem - and realise that they can set goals and challenges and reach them. The Foundation's ambition is that all young people who benefit from its activities will raise their aspirations so that sport and healthy activities become part of the fabric of their lives. This is a spectacular night, the culmination of the foremost amateur youth boxing competition which has in the past produced famous names such as Naseem Hamed and Audley Harrison. It will be an excellent opportunity for the sponsor to entertain staff and customers at a table hosted by a celebrity boxer whilst supporting a national charity that touches the lives of young people, say the organisation. The sponsor would have their name and logo on all communications, on the boxer’s kit if required (all boxers are over 18) and on the charity’s annual report which is widely distributed throughout the year. A PR agency is in place to promote the event and ensure positive coverage for both the charity and the sponsor, they tell us. It is now the largest chess tournament in the world, a marathon event running over eight months of the year. The structure of the tournament is simple, allowing the most inexperienced players to compete in the early stages, yet testing the mettle of the finest at the end. The tournament begins every Spring Term, and lasts until August. In the first stage, children compete week by week in hundreds of schools all over the UK. Every child is able to win prizes, such as badges, gold spots, mascots, trophies or even baseball caps; and every child has something to play for. Many sponsorship opportunities are available. SCY/0003 CHRIS LUCAS TRUST - THE GREAT NORTH BIKE RIDE
The Great North Bike Ride is an annual event in aid of the Chris Lucas Trust. Christopher suffered three long years - the Evening Chronicle covered his story during and after his illness and named him Bravest Boy in Britain and Local Hero. The trust is currently fundraising for a Scientific Medical Researcher, based with the NHS to research a very aggressive cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma and to help improve the quality of life of children and young adults suffering from this horrific type of sarcoma. Support for Chris Lucas Trust events can offer a number of benefits, say the organisers, including helping spread the sponsoring company's message to its target market, offering a direct and cost effective method of achieving the organisation's objectives and giving the company an edge in this market place. Through events sponsorship, sponsors can increase both their profile and brand awareness and can network through face-to-face contact with potential new clients at the events, say the trust, whose message is "Please make a difference. Inform your friends, workmates, get a team together!". The ride is 50 miles of beautiful Northumberland scenic coastline and the entry fee is £10. Exposure of the event will be achieved via the Chris Lucas Trust website and various publications, advertisements, mail shots, banners and display stands. Registered charity number: 1085775. Flying - man-powered flight
SMP/001 AIRBIKE UK
Manpowered aircraft have always caught the public's imagination. The thought of propelling yourself through the air, under your own steam, has inspired legends. British designer Rupert Sweet-Escott has invented, and applied for patents for, the world`s first commercial pedal powered flying machine - consisting of a conventional paragliding or hang gliding harness, featuring an enclosed pedal drive mechanism which spins a lightweight propeller. It works like this: the free flight hang glider or paraglider pilot runs off a small hill, gets into the harness, finds the pedals and cruises away. The harder you work, the further you go. The invention improves dramatically the performance of the free flight glider and Rupert believes that, with the development of free flight wings improving all the time, the system will one day herald the first foot-launched aircraft that can climb. In the meantime the Airbike massively extends the pilot's theatre of operation. The product is green, newsworthy and, by using the wing as a huge signboard, is a perfect sponsorship platform. Options for the airbike include a small electric or petrol motor for launching anywhere. So it becomes a reliable advertising placard, able to perform at nearly any outdoor venue. This is aviation history and, at a total cost of below £10,000 per complete aircraft, including the optional power pack, represents excellent publicity value. It is good news green technology, British endeavour and is perfect for adventures and expeditions. The Airbike concept releases the aircraft from the confines of natural lift sources, allowing the pilot freedom to roam the skies using pedal power to push himself or herself along. The pedal powered flight concept is no longer a dream! And with a choice of either prone Airbikes for the hang gliding pilot or supine for hang gliding or paragliding this product is literally taking off. Contact: Rupert Sweet-Escott. SG/0002 NATIONAL NINES OF EUROPE GOLF SERIES (BRADERSON ASSOCIATES)
The National Nines of Europe Golf Series is a series of three competitions for 9-hole golf clubs throughout the UK, Republic of Ireland, France and Holland with Grand Finals held in Jersey, CI each year. Now in its sixth year, the event has grown to become the premier event for all 9-hole golf clubs. Although this is a niche market, the opportunities to develop are enormous and such has been the success of its move into Europe that the organisation is now in talks to expand into Austria, Italy, Norway and Iceland. Current supporters are Jersey Tourism and Jersey Department of Sport, Education & Culture, who have supported the event from its outset in 1999 and will continue to do so. However, the organisers tell us that they are now planning significant expansion, with super opportunities available for one major title sponsor for all competitions or three sponsors to each take title for the three individual events in the series - Golf Classic (3 man team, Stableford), Ladies Team Matchplay and Seniors Betterball. Each event culminates in a Grand Final played in Jersey each September. Throughout the year high profile is given at all regional qualifiers in the UK and this, suggests the organisation, is a golden chance for small companies to gain wide exposure at low cost, eg to take title sponsorship for the Ladies Team Matchplay would cost only £4,000 pa. SPA/0001 FLY-K2 PARAGLIDING EXPEDITION
The Fly-K2 Paragliding Expedition is a group of ten multi-national paraglider pilots with a common aim: to fly paragliders up the world's second highest mountain, the 'savage' 8,611m K2. The team is mounting an expedition in the summer of 2006. This is a world first and is poised to open a new adventuring era. The expedition entails full mountain logistics to the Baltaro region of the Karakorum mountains. The group has already secured equipment sponsors following on from its successful, self-funded expedition to Rakaposhi (7,800m) in 2004. Due to the remoteness of the mountain range, the logistics of this trip dictate a far greater expense, budgeted at £100,000, for which the team is in search of a commercial sponsor. The expedition's members would be most grateful for sponsorship support and if successful they would involve the sponsoring organisation in maintaining and delivering returns. Photographic and filming opportunities are abundant with excellent product placement and branding links. An outline web page is now available at www.Fly-K2.com which further explains the expedition's aims and potential returns, together with some of the media coverage generated by its 2004 expedition. ST/0001 THE BRITISH WOMEN'S TENNIS ASSOCIATION
The British Women's Tennis Association (BWTA), in partnership with sponsors, aims to support and encourage the playing and development of women's tennis at all levels and all ages by providing a tournament structure throughout the UK. The association promises "Tournament tennis for girls and ladies 5 to 105 years, for stars and for those who just want to play for fun". The remarkable 26 year long tennis partnership between Tate & Lyle and the BWTA came to an end in October 2001. Over this period Tate & Lyle sponsored some twenty or so one-day ladies doubles tournaments each year thereby annually giving more than 1,700 ladies of club standard the opportunity to compete in a fun and sociable atmosphere. The winners of each event qualified for the Masters which was staged annually at The All England Club in Wimbledon, along with a singles event for national and international standard players. A new main sponsor is now being sought. Contact: Jean Fyfe, Director. Address: 33 Princes Avenue, London W3 8LX. Tel.: 020 8993 3397. Fax: 020 8993 6889. E-mail: bwta@compuserve.com

SVE/0002 TEN EM BEE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Ten Em Bee is a five acre modern facility situated in South London which caters for a number of sports. In addition to playing surfaces there are floodlights, changing rooms, a kitchen area and a large classroom. Mission statement:- "Ten Em Bee Sports Development Centre provides sporting opportunity for young people in an atmosphere where 'playing the game' will be a rewarding experience that will remain for life. A place of education where learning, training and personal development, standards and loyalty are valued". In partnership with a local college of higher education, the club has initiated a sport scholarship scheme. School leavers with sporting potential sign on at the college for the course of their choice. Immediately after leaving secondary school, their sporting education commences, with training and coaching three days a week. During term time additional coaching and training is provided for up to twelve hours a week. Competitive matches are played at the highest level available locally. Sport is the bait that attracts the child to education and the hook that ensures his/her continuance! In addition to academic and sporting education, emphasis is placed on social, physical and psychological development. Mentoring and career advice is available. Students are required to obtain coaching awards - when qualified they use their expertise for the benefit of local children. Support is required to develop this educational (in its widest sense) opportunity. "Our 'scholarship' scheme works!" they tell us. Support is received from a local college and Inner London Council. Partnership with Ten Em Bee guarantees links with a college, local council and the possibility of hoarding advertisments at the registered charity's facility and a local stadium. Sponsors would be seen to be supporting government initiatives and playing a major part in the education and physical development of children in South London. Contact: Tony Davis. SVO/0001 ENGLISH VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION - VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL FINALS
The EVA's National Finals are played over two days, with eight games in front of a noisy crowd and SKY Sports cameras, say the organisation. The top sides in England compete against each other in the culmination of a nationwide knock out competition held throughout the year. An Olympic sport for men and women played nationally, volleyball is one of the few sports that cater equally for both men and women, with a large youth base. It is vibrant, lively, entertaining and yet specific, ideal (say the EVA) for the company which knows what it wants. It's easy to join in, has a friendly atmosphere and with devotion abounding, this prestigious sport can be played all year round - an ideal candidate for sponsorship.
