Gloucester Academy of Music makes concerted effort to find key sponsors

Gloucester Academy of Music (GAM) is a not-for-profit educational organisation based in the centre of Gloucester.

For over a quarter of a century, it has been the starting place for thousands of young musicians, attracting students from across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

On top of individual tuition on a number of different musical instruments it offers a wide range of group activities, including junior string and wind groups, orchestras and choir.

Over the past few years, the Academy has worked in partnership with, amongst others, the Carducci Quartet, English Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra of the Swan on workshop and performance projects.

Fun

It also runs a series of holiday courses throughout the year and engages with the community through outreach projects in schools.

"GAM remains committed to widening access to classical music for all young people, and we are seeking sponsorship for a bursary fund to enable us to offer financial assistance towards fees for young people who would otherwise be unable to develop their musical potential. All sponsors would be listed on our website and on printed material such as concert programmes.

"Musical education is important in developing a child's concentration, team work, mathematical skills, discipline and rigour - but can also be a lot of fun. We believe that learning an instrument is too valuable an opportunity to be restricted to those with the financial means.

"In this economic climate, where the arts face Government funding cuts, we will be forced to rely on the generosity of patrons and the private sector to expand these opportunities to all".
