PRODUCTION OF NEW MUSIC THEATRE WORK MIE IN LONDON/DOCKLANDS: FEATURING A WIZARD, AN ACROBAT, A GIANT CHAIR, A GLASS HARMONICA, SIX MIMES AND AN ORCHESTRA
Mie is a new, ninety-minute contemporary music theatre work by Catherine Kontz. It is going to have a run of six performances at the Space Theatre, in the heart of London Docklands, from 16th to 19th November, 2006. Like an opera without voices, this orchestral theatre work enhances the musical text by integrating visual devices in order to narrate a story. Amongst the fifty participants are thirty-nine musicians, six mimes and one acrobat. The combination of music and visuals opens contemporary music to new audiences and makes it more accessible to the general public. Drawing on inspirations ranging from Japanese Kabuki to Lynchean cinema, the production of Mie may be compared to the theatre of Robert Wilson (The Black Rider, Einstein on the Beach), Steve Reich (The Cave) or Laurie Anderson (O Superman). The November performances will feature special artist Alasdair Malloy, a world-renowned glass-harmonica specialist who has recorded for the Icelandic artist Björk and is also the artistic director of the Adventure Concerts for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and responsible for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's successful Phil Power series. The audience of Mie will certainly enjoy an extraordinary theatre experience. The show works on different levels and it is possible for children and adults alike to enjoy it. It brings contemporary music and orchestral sounds to children in a new and exciting way. Mie also gives the general public an alternative to opera, musicals and contemporary classical concerts by treating contemporary music material in an original and modern way. In addition, 2006 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin, inventor of the glass harmonica, which is one of the main featured instruments of Mie. November 2006 is therefore an ideal time to première this work as part of these celebrations. The production team is seeking additional private and corporate sponsorship to go towards paying the creative team and the participating musicians and artists. More information on the production and on sponsorship possibilities is available on request. Contact: Catherine Kontz. Address: London. Tel.: 07957 622 912. E-mail: catherinekontz@gmail.com

RED SHIFT THEATRE COMPANY
"This unsettling, spiky, deliciously entertaining little show is a triumphant reminder of why the company has survived so long", Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, November 2002. Who they are: Red Shift boasts a position as one of the country’s most experienced touring theatre companies, touring regularly since 1982 to urban and rural venues throughout the UK and abroad. Now, approaching their 21st birthday, Red Shift continues to evolve artistically and remains at the forefront of exciting touring theatre, whilst maintaining its distinctive style and commitment to bringing stimulating and accessible story-based theatre to the broadest audience possible. The company has charitable status and is one of the few national touring companies in receipt of revenue-funding from The Arts Council of England. Red Shift seeks sponsorship for whole tours, for London/Edinburgh runs and for the various education programmes targeted at young people and other sectors of the communities to which they tour. RUMPUS THEATRE COMPANY
Rumpus is a lively, established theatre company with a strong reputation for stylish productions of popular and exciting new plays - they are “masters of the high audience appeal production”, Derbyshire Times. With a proven track record in small- and middle-scale touring, Rumpus is seeking business sponsorship in the form of a bridging loan to set up its first high profile Number 1 tour. The Signalman - a new play based on Charles Dickens' classic, well-known ghost story - has had two very successful regional productions (by Rumpus in Chesterfield in 1997 and by Bill Kenwright at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, in 1998) and was described by the press as “ideal entertainment for a winter’s night”, Observer, and, according to the Windsor Express, “deserves to join the ranks of stage shows that really send a shiver up the spine”. It therefore appears ripe for large-scale touring, and has the serious potential for a London West End transfer. For a very small investment, a potential sponsor would benefit from high profile national advertising in all promotional material and media exposure associated with the production, and the accompanying kudos of supporting a high-quality, popular appeal arts project for the duration of the production. The download button below will provide more detail on what this sponsorship proposal actually involves, together with more about Rumpus. Contact: John Goodrum, Director. Address: Rumpus Theatre Company, 151 Birches Lane, South Wingfield, Derbyshire DE55 7LZ. Tel.: 01773 835703. Fax: 01773 835703. E-mail: admin@rumpustheatrecompany.co.uk

AD/0004 BELOW STAIRS MUSICAL (for cancer research)
Below Stairs, premièred in May 2002 in Chesham to excellent reviews, has now enjoyed four productions. Emulating the Peter Pan/Great Ormond Street link, all stagings now generate money for Cancer Research UK, as a thankyou from the composer who kept sane by creating the show through successive major cancer surgery on the colon, liver and lung. The aim now is to mount a more ambitious production at a large theatre, with upfront sponsorship allowing all box office receipts to go to the charity. The resulting high-profile exposure, backed by professional-quality DVD and CD, will then stimulate the UK amdram circuit to put the show on, thus generating a stream of cash in the future for the charity. Below Stairs is a tuneful, feel-good musical set in 1914 at the outbreak of WW1, with a leading female role that surpasses Eliza Dolittle. The website www.BelowStairsShow.com gives full details of the show's history, plot, rave reviews, cast demands and so on. Scores and libs are available for assessment hire. Videos of the first and fourth productions show how the musical has been polished, sound extracts being available at www.tunes.belowstairsshow.com. Among the show's fans are BBC newsreader Patrick Lunt, who augmented the chorus sound in the first production, and actor/writer Simon Williams (Major Bellamy in TV's Upstairs, Downstairs), who describes the show as fabulous. Sponsors of the proposed large-scale charity production will see their money doubled for cancer research, delight audiences with a feel-good show with memorable tunes and create a stimulus for other amateur operatic societies to stage the work to benefit charity. AD/0027 IRIS THEATRE
Iris Theatre is a new theatre company born out of the experience and energy of several Central Saint Martins (Drama Centre) theatre graduates, both recent and more senior. The company's first professional production, in March 2007, will be Murder in the Cathedral by T.S. Eliot. They intend to combine music and theatre into an electric evening of entertainment. The company has already secured the dramatic and central location of St. Pauls Church, Covent Garden, a Grade I listed Inigo Jones-designed building of national significance. St Pauls is experienced in presenting a wide variety of differing performances, from charity galas to lunchtime concerts - and everything between. Iris Theatre have provisionally booked in for the two weeks from March 19th to March 31st, 2007. The group needs to raise a total of around £6,000 in sponsorship to make this two-week project economically viable and is looking for around £1,000 sponsorship from each of its partners. Of course any support, large or small, would be welcomed. They have already had a sizable donation from the Worshipful Company of Mercers. All partners in the production would benefit from displays on all publicity materials, including    having their logo prominent positioned on two 2m by 1.5m banners attached to the outside of St. Pauls, Covent Garden; "the footfall through Covent Garden past this location must be in the hundreds of thousands and the banners will be in place for almost all of March to advertise the production"    having their logo prominently placed on all advertisements in the local London press    having their logo on all flyers (10,000+) and posters - "these flyers will be handed out in Covent Garden throughout March. We also intend to target the congregations of the Catholic and Anglican Churches in London"    having their name and logo on all email and online promotions - "we hope to persuade many city organizations to allow us to contact their staff and members"    having their logo prominently displayed on the company's new website    having their logo on all programmes. As a partner each sponsor would also be eligible for a large number of complimentary tickets for the show. Finally, it should be noted that a significant percentage of sponsors' money will go directly to supporting St Pauls, Covent Garden. "This church is an invaluable asset in the spiritual and cultural life of the whole of London and its outreach is truly global thanks to its central location". Contact: Daniel Winder. Penny Plain Theatre Company is a Yorkshire Dales based touring company which performs high energy comedy from a travelling replica of a Victorian fairground theatre booth. Next year's summer production is "The Entire History of the North": chaos and mayhem as ever, but with a serious underlying aim of retelling some of Yorkshire's heritage.
