Brit Insurance and Surrey CCC announce biggest ever domestic cricket sponsorship

Brit Insurance, the UK general insurer, has signed a new five-year deal to sponsor Surrey County Cricket Club and the Brit Insurance Oval in the biggest sponsorship deal in English club cricket history.

The groundbreaking deal, which will run from the start of the 2006 domestic season through to the end of 2010, eclipses the previous deal between the two parties (signed in January 2004) as the biggest of its kind in English county cricket.

The agreement will see Brit Insurance brand all Surrey CCC white and coloured shirts and retain the naming rights to the famous London cricket arena until the end of the 2010 domestic season. Also included in the new contract will be performance based incentives rewarding the club for securing promotion back into the first division of the County Championship.

"Over the past two years our sponsorship of Surrey CCC and the Brit Insurance Oval has proved an unqualified success and we are delighted to commit to a new, five-year agreement with the club," said Dane Douetil, Chief Executive, Brit Insurance.

"To date, the sponsorship has delivered above and beyond our expectations, culminating in last summer's dramatic fifth and final Ashes Test Match which attracted a staggering 93.5 million television viewers - far and away the biggest of any Test Match ground in 2005.

"Our sponsorship of both Club and ground has put the Brit Insurance brand firmly on the map."

Paul Sheldon, Chief Executive of Surrey County Cricket Club, said: "In the last two years we have forged a real partnership with Brit Insurance which has been hugely rewarding for both parties - hence the new commitment until 2010.

"These are exciting times for Surrey County Cricket Club. The redevelopments of the Vauxhall End are now complete and we can proudly boast one of the finest arenas in world cricket. Guided by a new Club coach and captain, we enter the new season full of confidence. The support of Brit Insurance will be absolutely crucial in helping us to achieve our objectives both on and off the pitch."

The new five-year agreement, which will include the 2009 Ashes Series, was negotiated by sports marketing consultancy, WSM Ltd.
