ST/0001 ASHWELL TENNIS AND SPORTS CLUB, HERTS.
After having lost its courts in 2002, the village of Ashwell in North Hertfordshire has been applying and fighting for any available funds to build new courts. Now, having raised over £30,000, Ashwell Tennis and Sports Club is planning to build two new courts. The club needs a little bit more in the way of sponsorship and/or donations to get started. "The children of Ashwell need to have a place to practice locally instead of travelling to play tennis. Please sponsor our Open Day with anything you can - or even donate some equipment". Contact: Mandy Ferguson, Membership Secretary. Address: 47 Mill Street, Ashwell, Herts. SG7 5LU. Tel.: 07772 510154. E-mail:

ST/002 BIRMINGHAM NORTH CITY TENNIS CLUB
Birmingham North City Tennis Club is an inner city no-profit tennis club, based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, whose members come from a mix of ethnic backgrounds. The club was launched in 2005 through grants by partners including the local council; but the club is now not going to be funded after August. The club has been producing players who have been successful in playing and winning tournaments against more established clubs both in team and individual events. More than this they have been seeing children become more positive people - and also becoming fitter. The club meets all the criteria that the government has said that they would like to see for children in such organisations. Despite this, Birmingham Nortn City Tennis Club is in danger of going under as it does not receive support. "It takes approximately £40,000 annually to run the club and we would like sponsorship for at least three years, after which time we are aiming to be able to sustain ourselves". Contact: Lawrence Douglin. Address: Hamstead Hall Community Learning Centre, Craythorne Avenue, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham B20 1HL. Tel.: 07815 309515. E-mail: douglinl@hamhall.bham.sch.uk
