The Crown Estate to sponsor Master Paintings Week

Master Paintings Week (MPW), now in its fifth year and already acknowledged as an important event in London's art calendar, has announce the support of The Crown Estate.

James Cooksey, Head of St James's Portfolio, said: "The Crown Estate is delighted to partner for the first time with Master Paintings Week. We value the important contribution of the art community in St James's and to be part of this exceptional week of events highlights our commitment to promoting the area's unique culture and heritage".

Master Paintings Week (MPW) is a successful collaboration between twenty leading dealers and three international auction houses and will take place from 28th June to 5th July, 2013. In 2013 there will be two newcomers: Coll & Cortés Fine Arts, who recently opened new premises in Mayfair, and Galleria Cesare Lampronti Art Broker Finance Ltd, who have been in St James's since January. During MPW special exhibitions and other events will be staged by the dealers, all of whom are situated a short walk from one another in the heart of London's Mayfair and St James's, the latter forming a core part of The Crown Estate's holdings.

The success of the event, which attracts collectors, curators and art historians as well as enthusiasts from all around the world, has also led to Master Paintings Week collaborating with Master Drawings and Sculpture Week to create London Art Week, a platform that further illustrates the extraordinary range and quality of fine art from the 15th to 20th centuries available on the market in London.

Johnny Van Haeften, one of the co-founders of Master Paintings Week, commented: "We are delighted that The Crown Estate has recognised the value of MPW to London in general and St James's in particular, and we also welcome the London Art Week initiative which underlines the unique and unrivalled connoisseurship and expertise to be found in the art trade in London”.

Another new initiative for 2013 will be the Master Paintings Week Directory. The handy pocket-sized publication is free and can be ordered via the website www.masterpaintingsweek.co.uk. The free iPhone and iPad apps, which have an interactive map and GPS that not only show all the participating galleries and auction houses, but also the hotels and restaurants in the area, has been available since April. Both the apps and the website are synchronised via DigitisedArt so that information is continually updated.

The participants in the 2013 Master Paintings Week are Charles Beddington Ltd, Bonhams, Christie's, Coll & Cortés Fine Arts, Colnaghi, Ben Elwes Fine Art, Deborah Gage (Works of Art) Ltd, Richard Green Fine Paintings, Johnny Van Haeften Ltd, Haldane Fine Art exhibiting at Alon Zakaim Fine Art, Fergus Hall Master Paintings, Derek Johns Ltd, Theo Johns Fine Art Ltd, Galleria Cesare Lampronti Art Broker Finance Ltd, John Mitchell Fine Paintings, Moretti Fine Art Ltd, Philip Mould & Company, Piacenti Art Gallery, Stair Sainty Gallery and Robilant + Voena, Sotheby's, Sphinx Fine Art, Rafael Valls Ltd and The Weiss Gallery.
